Richard
and Lowene Gray purchased and began operation of the family-owned
business, Spencer Truck Line, in 1971. At that time, it was strictly
a livestock transportation business with thre e
trucks and three trailers. Years later they purchased a straight
truck to move smaller loads. All of the customers for the busin ess
at that time were local farmers. The drivers were Richard and
his two sons, Rick and Terry. His wife Lowene worked in the office
answering the telephone and handling the books.
In
1988, Terry Gray took over the family business, along w ith
a new partner, Rick Adams. The business stayed true to its livestock
roots until 1992, when it decided to expand into van freight.
They began hauling furniture for Stylecraft, a branch of Klaussner
furniture, nationwide. Spencer Truck Line, Inc. still moves loads
for Stylecraft on a daily basis.
Spencer
Truck Line, Inc. now owns 14 trucks with 4 owner operators, 32
van freight trailers, 9 livestock trailers, and employs 35 full-time
and part-time employees.
